Punctal Plugs
Punctal plugs are tiny, biocompatible devices that are inserted into tear ducts to block drainage. This increases the eye's tear film and surface moisture to help relieve certain forms of dry eye. Also known as punctum plugs, lacrimal plugs or occluders, these devices often are no larger than a grain of rice. They are super easy to place in the punctum and is done in the clinic.
Patients are amazed how quick and painless it is done, even though they are all apprehensive when first told about punctal plugs. Like a a plug in the sink, it conserves in your eyes the tears you produce so you need fewer eye drops. I use plugs only after all the meibomitis and inflammation have resolved with Eyelight or Tixel.
